Junior played high school basketball for West Rowan High School where he led the Falcons to a 61-0 record during his junior and senior year, winning back-to-back North Carolina state championships. He was the 2003 Rowan County Player of the Year and runner up for North Carolina AAA Mr. Basketball.
After two years at College of Charleston, Hairston transferred to Towson University. As a senior Hairston led the Tigers averaging 13.0 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game and finished the year with 60 blocks. Hairston was named an all-conference selection in both years at Towson and became the first Towson player to be named to the CAA all-tournament team. In just two seasons, Junior joined former Navy All-American David Robinson as the only CAA players ever to grab 21 or more rebounds in multiple games in a single season.
After college, Junior played nine Season overseas in Turkey, Iceland, Australia, Chile, Finland, and the Netherlands. He has since become an elite basketball trainer in the city of Charlotte, training elite AAU, NCAA and NBA talent. His passion, however is working with kids just starting to develop their basketball skills.
